Biggun had an eventful day! He got a nice visit from SMSgt Kile and LtCol Barnett today during kangaroo care. They came up to see how he was progressing and how he has been doing. It was nice to see the dramatic changes he has made in progress since first arriving at Lucille Packard. Even his color is looking amazing.
One of the things the nurse recommended today was that while it's too early for Biggun to be able to breastfeed, if I were to do kangaroo care without a bra or with a nursing bra, he might play around to get used to the idea of breastfeeding. He still hasn't mastered sucking, breathing and swallowing yet, but this would be great to prepare him for when the feeding tube comes out.
He is still having issues with his hematocrit levels, so they are still needing to do blood transfusions to keep his levels in check. His feedings are also up to 25 ML every three hours, which means he has a great appetite and is tolerating my milk well. It's definitely nice to feel like I can contribute to his care!
He is still rocking the CPAP, and he had a few more desats today than usual, but it's probably because we were handling him so much. His oxygen intake was up to 40% when we left, but it isn't necessarily a step back as long as he can bounce back from it.
Keep the prayers coming! Even though he's still needing transfusions and is still desatting, all of this is AMAZING forward progress.
Much Love,
Rachel and Joshua
PS He sure looks like he is having a great dream, no?
Donations
I wanted to extend my thanks to all those who have helped us over the last three months. Had it not been for your generosity, we would not have survived. And most importantly, we would not have been able to be by Biggun's side. There are no words that can express how much it means to me that I was given that opportunity.
Our situation is not nearly as dire as it was. We still take it day by day and manage our money very carefully. Hike for Heroes recently assisted us by putting $2000 directly towards bills we owed, which was a huge relief for us.
If you are still interested in helping or donating, we most definitely need items to gear up for Biggun coming home. There are certain things we still need such as a baby swing, bouncer, walker, bottles, diapers, wipes, and any/all sorts of baby clothes. He is currently wearing 0-3 months.
Donations can still be done the same way - You can go to www.paypal.com and donate to the email rachelxkeslar@gmail.com. You can also go to any CHASE bank and put in a deposit to Joshua Daniel Keslar. Any questions you might have can be sent to the rachelxkeslar@gmail.com email address.
Again, thank you for all your support. You kept us alive and by our baby's side. I cannot thank you enough for that.
