Donations

I wanted to extend my thanks to all those who have helped us over the last three months. Had it not been for your generosity, we would not have survived. And most importantly, we would not have been able to be by Biggun's side. There are no words that can express how much it means to me that I was given that opportunity.

Our situation is not nearly as dire as it was. We still take it day by day and manage our money very carefully. Hike for Heroes recently assisted us by putting $2000 directly towards bills we owed, which was a huge relief for us.

If you are still interested in helping or donating, we most definitely need items to gear up for Biggun coming home. There are certain things we still need such as a baby swing, bouncer, walker, bottles, diapers, wipes, and any/all sorts of baby clothes. He is currently wearing 0-3 months.

Donations can still be done the same way - You can go to www.paypal.com and donate to the email rachelxkeslar@gmail.com. You can also go to any CHASE bank and put in a deposit to Joshua Daniel Keslar. Any questions you might have can be sent to the rachelxkeslar@gmail.com email address.

Again, thank you for all your support. You kept us alive and by our baby's side. I cannot thank you enough for that.

Ronald McDonald

Just got the call. Ronald McDonald house made room available for us. Looks like we now have a place to stay while little Biggun is fighting! We are so lucky to be so blessed. Keep the prayers coming, they are obviously working!

Much Love,
Rachel and Joshua

January 9th!

Little guy is doing great! I'm by his bedside now and it appears that his bilirubin is good so no more lights.
We are waiting for the social worker to contact us to help us identify what the plan of attack is for the night.

Here is a great top shot!

Introduction to Baby Joshua

Hey Guys, this is Rachel. I know there are so many people who are concerned about little Biggun, and to save from having to get a repeat story and not-as-up-to-date information, I wanted to create this site for anyone to come see any time they'd like.
Anytime I have an update, I'll post it here. I'll also post pictures here as well.

So the situation is this -

Baby Joshua Daniel Keslar II was born on January 6th at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital at 3:38 am via an emergency C-Section.
I was admitted to the hospital on January 4th for preterm labor. They attempeted vigirously to stop the contractions, but after two days of trying and multiple attempts to stop labor, the hospital elected to deliver him to avoid a breech delivery.
He was born 14 weeks premature at 1 lb 14 oz. He was immediately transferred to the NICU and that morning was transported to Stanford at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital due to the level of care he will need.

Currently, he has undergone 4 blood transfusions to avoid brain hemorrhage. His blood pressure cannot stay stable, and his lungs are premature, so they administer surfactant. He is unable to cough, so they have to drain his lungs multiple times a day to avoid fluid build up.
His eyes are fused shut, and the hope is that eventually they will open. His digestive tract is not fully developed, so they do buckle feeds, which is essentially a drop of breast milk into the cheek that absorbs into the skin and the rest of his fluids are administered via IV.
The flap on his heart has not yet closed, and they are attempting to close it with medication. The echocardiogram showed that there is some danger to blood going into the lungs because of this additional flap.
He doesn't have all his layers of skin, so they keep him under a humidifier to avoid damage. He is also jaundiced so he is under UV rays. Because of the type of ventilator he is on, they keep him sedated on morphine so he does not wiggle.

Every day we pray he stays stable. His stats are inconsistent and change constantly, and the fear is that things change so quickly. Every day down is one day closer to him surviving. We love prayers and comments, and happily welcome text messages and phone calls as well.

Thank you for the overflowing support. I will do my best to keep this as up to date as possible, and if you ever have questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Much Love,
Rachel and Joshua
